Dugout Score v2.1

Support & Help

Getting Started

Dugout Score is a game scoring app for Little League Minors baseball. Here's how to get up and running:

Lineup Card Import

On the New Game screen, tap Import from Photo to read your handwritten lineup card with the camera or photo library. The app extracts the batting order, jersey numbers, opponent name, Home/Away setting, and per-inning fielding positions, then drops you into a review sheet to confirm or edit each row before applying.

How to Read the Card

The Import sheet shows two reading modes — pick whichever fits the card:

Review Sheet

After the photo is read, each row shows the extracted name + jersey + position picks. The app fuzzy-matches names against your roster and color-codes match confidence (green ≥ 80%, orange ≥ 50%, red below). Tap any row to pick a different player, skip the row, or override an inning's position. Tap Apply to commit the result to the New Game form.

iCloud Sync

If you're signed into iCloud, your roster, games, seasons, and stats sync to your private CloudKit database automatically. Sign into the same Apple ID on a second device, install the app, and your data appears within a minute.

To turn off sync (the app keeps working locally): Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud → toggle Dugout Score off.

Recently Deleted

Deleting a game or season no longer wipes it instantly — it goes to a Recently Deleted bin for 30 days. From the Home screen → Data Management → Recently Deleted, you can:

After 30 days, items are removed for good on the next app launch.

Play-by-Play New in 2.1

Tap PBP in the bottom toolbar during a live game for a broadcaster-style narration of every event so far. Each line is a one-sentence description — "Emilio Ramos (#47) doubles to left field on a 2-1 count, drives in two, Ronin Gant (#67) tags from third, scores. (Tigers 4, Orioles 2) [Lead change]" — that reads like a real scorebook narrator.

What gets logged

Filters

The live PBP sheet has three controls above the feed:

Tap a row for context

Plays anchored to a specific batter show a chevron on the right. Tap the row for a sheet with the full headline, that batter's stat line so far this game (PA, AB, H, 2B, 3B, HR, R, RBI, BB, K, SB, SAC), and a spray-chart dot at the recorded contact point.

Game Stats & PDF

The Game Stats screen has a PBP tab (replacing the old Log tab) with the same feed, search, and Scoring filter for any completed game. Tap PDF for a chronological print-ready export. Finished games also get a recap card at the top with the final score, top hitter, most-RBI player, and the pitcher who threw the most pitches.

Older games

Games scored before v2.1 don't have a live feed. The app reconstructs one from the at-bat log; backfilled rows show "—" instead of a timestamp and a small note at the top explains the reconstruction.

Opponent jerseys

So opponent at-bats and fielders aren't anonymous in the feed:

Rules-Aware Scoring

The scoring engine enforces official Little League Minor Division rules. When a rule-based end condition is met, you'll see a prompt explaining the rule (with the official citation) and two choices:

ConditionRuleYour choices
5 runs scored in a half-inningRule 5.07End Half-Inning / Keep Playing
Full roster has batted onceRule 5.07End Half-Inning / Keep Playing
Walk-off winRule 4.11(c)End Game / Keep Playing
15-run lead after 3 inningsRule 4.10(e)End Game / Keep Playing
10-run lead after 4 inningsRule 4.10(e)End Game / Keep Playing
8-run lead after 5 inningsRule 4.10(e)End Game / Keep Playing
6 innings complete (not tied)Rule 4.10(a)End Game / Keep Playing (extras)

"Keep Playing" is there for when the umpire or coaches don't call the rule. The app won't re-prompt for the same condition in the same half-inning or game. Three outs always ends the half automatically — no prompt needed.

Pitch Count Tracking

Your Team's Pitchers

When your team is fielding, tap the OUR PITCHER card to select the current pitcher. Every pitch is counted. The card shows the running count with the age-based limit:

League AgeMax Pitches / Game
7–850
9–1075
11–1285

The count turns orange at 80% of the limit and red at the limit. The Stats → Pitching tab shows required rest days and the earliest date each pitcher is available.

Opponent Pitchers

When your team is batting, tap the OPP PITCHER card to enter the current opponent pitcher's jersey number. The app tracks their pitch count for the game. You can switch numbers at any time (e.g., when a reliever enters); each pitcher's count is tracked separately.

Mound Visits

The Visit button in the bottom toolbar logs a mound visit. Minor League limits (Rule 8.06):

The button turns red when you've hit either limit. The per-inning counter resets when a new inning starts.

Intentional Walk

The IBB button (in pitch-by-pitch mode) issues an intentional walk per Rule 6.08(a)(2). It adds the correct number of balls to the active pitcher's pitch count, walks the batter, and forces runners on filled bases.

Correcting Mistakes

Undo

Tap the ← N button to see the labeled undo history (up to 40 actions deep). Each entry shows what happened (e.g., "Ball 3", "Single", "Stolen Base"). Tap "Undo this" to roll back the most recent action. Undo restores the full game state.

Edit Scoreboard

Tap any inning score cell on the live scoreboard to adjust runs with +/− buttons. Each adjustment is undoable.

Change Batter

Tap "Change" on the At Bat card to skip to a different player in the lineup.

Reopen a Finished Game

If a game was ended by mistake or you need to make corrections:

All scoring state is preserved. Only one game can be live at a time.

Recover a Deleted Game or Season

Home → Data Management → Recently Deleted. Tap Restore on the row to bring it back. Items auto-purge after 30 days.

Baserunner Management

Defensive Positions & Mandatory Play

Tap Pos during a live game to assign positions (P, C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF, RF, EH) per player per half-inning. The Game Stats → Pos tab shows the full position grid and includes a mandatory play indicator that flags any player with fewer than 2 half-innings on defense.

Built-In Rules Reference

Tap menu → Rules, or the book icon during a live game, to open a searchable reference of every official Little League Minor Division rule that governs the app. Six chapters cover Game Length, Half-Inning End, Batting, Baserunning, Pitching, and Mandatory Play. Each rule includes the official citation and an explanation of how the app implements it.

Game Timer

The timer auto-starts when a game is created. Tap ▸/⏸ to pause/resume. It turns orange at 90 minutes and red at 105 minutes (the local-option time limit per Rule 4.10(c)(2)). The timer persists across app restarts.

Stats & Trends

Per-game stats are available in four tabs: Hitting (AB, H, 1B–HR, RBI, BB, K, SB, AVG), Fielding (PO, A, E, FP%), PBP (full broadcaster-style play-by-play feed with search, Scoring filter, tap-for-context, and PDF export), and Pos (positions + mandatory play). Season aggregates include OBP, SLG, pitching availability, and W-L-T record.

The Trends view shows game-over-game line charts for team runs and opponent runs. Select any player to see their cumulative batting average trend.

PDF Reports

Both generate a print-ready page. Use Share → Print → Save as PDF on iPhone.

Data Management

Tip: iCloud sync covers most cases, but exporting a JSON backup before a major event (e.g., switching devices, end of season) is a good habit.

Dark & Light Mode

Tap the menu and select Light Mode / Dark Mode to toggle. Dark mode uses a deep green theme (great for evening games); light mode has a high-contrast background for direct sunlight.

Requirements

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I close the app during a game?

The full game state is saved after every action. When you reopen the app, the live game card appears on the Home screen — tap it to resume exactly where you left off.

The umpire didn't call the mercy rule / run cap. What do I do?

Tap "Keep Playing" when the prompt appears. The app will continue scoring without re-prompting for the same condition.

Can I have two games going at once?

No. Only one game can be live at a time. Finish or end the current game before starting a new one.

How accurate are pitch counts in Quick mode?

Each Quick-mode action counts as 1 pitch. In reality, a walk is 4+ pitches and a strikeout is 3+. For accurate pitch counts, use Pitch mode.

Can I track stats for the opposing team's players?

The app tracks team-level runs, hits, and errors for the opponent, plus individual pitch counts by opponent pitcher number. Individual opponent batting stats are not tracked.

How do I transfer data to a new phone?

The easiest way is iCloud sync — sign into the same Apple ID on the new phone, install Dugout Score, and your data appears within a minute. As a backup option, export a JSON file (Home → Export) and import it on the new phone.

Does the app work offline?

Yes for scoring, stats, and data management. Cloud Scan requires the internet; iCloud sync requires an internet connection to push and pull updates (changes made offline sync once you reconnect).

What does Cloud Scan cost?

Three pack sizes: 20 scans for $0.99, 50 for $2.99, or 100 for $4.99 (one-time purchases, no subscriptions, scans don't expire). Or bring your own Anthropic API key and pay Anthropic directly (~$0.02 per scan).

Where are deleted games?

Recently Deleted, accessible from Data Management on the Home screen. Items stay there for 30 days before they're auto-purged.

Privacy Policy

By default, your data stays on your devices and in your private iCloud database — only you can see it. Cloud Scan optionally sends lineup-card photos to Anthropic when you choose it. The app contains no analytics, no advertising, and no behavioral trackers. Read the full privacy policy.
