Privacy Policy — Effective May 9, 2026 (v2.1)
Dugout Score keeps your scoring data private. By default, everything stays on your devices and in your private iCloud database — only you can see it. The app never sends data to advertisers, analytics services, or anyone except a couple of clearly-disclosed services described below.
Team rosters (player names, jersey numbers, ages), games (scores, plays, stats), seasons, and any settings you configure are stored locally on your iPhone or iPad. If iCloud is enabled on your device, this data also syncs to your private CloudKit database in iCloud, which is owned by you and not accessible to us or any third party. This sync lets you use the app on multiple devices signed into the same Apple ID.
The app includes an optional feature called Cloud Scan that uses AI to read handwritten lineup-card photos. Cloud Scan is opt-in — it's not the default reading mode, and it only runs when you select it and choose a photo.
When you use Cloud Scan, the photo you select is uploaded to a backend service we operate, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API to extract the lineup information. Photos are processed in real time and not retained beyond what's needed to return a result.
As an alternative to buying scan packs, you can paste your own Anthropic API key into the app's "Use My Key" panel. The key is stored only in your iOS Keychain on the device where you entered it. We never see, transmit, or store it. When this mode is selected, your photo is sent directly from the app to Anthropic using your key.
If you purchase scan packs, Apple's StoreKit handles the transaction. Apple shares with us only what's necessary to credit your account: a signed transaction receipt that contains the product ID and a transaction identifier. We use it to grant the appropriate number of scans on our backend. We never see your name, email, billing address, or payment information.
To track your scan balance across reinstalls and devices, our backend stores an anonymous identifier (a random UUID generated on first launch and kept in your device's Keychain) along with your remaining balance and the list of redeemed transaction IDs. This identifier is not linked to your Apple ID, name, or any other personal information.
The app contains no advertising, no analytics SDKs, and no behavioral trackers.
Dugout Score is designed to score youth baseball games but is intended to be operated by parents and coaches — not by children directly. The app does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. Player names and ages entered into the app are stored only on the device and your private iCloud, and are never transmitted to advertisers, analytics services, or any third party other than the disclosed services above (which only see them as part of the lineup-card OCR if you choose Cloud Scan).
The app includes an export feature that saves all your data as a JSON file to your device. This file is created locally and is not uploaded anywhere. If you choose to share an exported backup (via email, messaging, or cloud storage), you are responsible for the privacy of that shared data.
You can delete data at any time:
Local data is protected by your device's own security (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, encryption). iCloud-synced data is protected by your iCloud security and end-to-end encryption settings. API requests to our backend and to Anthropic use HTTPS.
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
