Plate Hunter does not run its own servers and does not collect, transmit, or sell any of your personal information. By default, all of your game data stays on your device. Two optional features — Shared Trips and Game Center — use Apple's own iCloud and Game Center services on your behalf, entirely under Apple's privacy terms. No third-party analytics, no ads, no tracking.
By default, Plate Hunter stores everything locally on your device: the plates you've spotted, their timestamps, any GPS coordinates you allow, your bingo cards, and which achievement badges you've earned. This data stays on your device unless you opt into one of the optional features below.
When you spot a plate, Plate Hunter may record the GPS coordinates of where you saw it so you can review your finds on the Pin Map. This requires your explicit permission the first time we try to read your location. You can deny or revoke this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Plate Hunter. Denying location permission has no effect on any other part of the app — plates without a location simply won't appear on the Pin Map.
Location coordinates are stored locally by default. If you later choose to share a road trip (see below), the coordinates for spots in that trip are stored in your iCloud account alongside the rest of the trip's data, and are visible to anyone you invite to that trip.
Shared Trips is an optional feature that lets you invite family or friends to collaborate on a single road trip. When you tap Share on a trip:
• The trip's data (name, bingo card, and spotted plates — including any coordinates you captured) is uploaded to your own iCloud account and stored there by Apple's CloudKit service.
• People you invite receive a link via iMessage, email, AirDrop, or any other channel you choose. Only those people can see the trip.
• Apple handles all syncing between devices. We never see your trip data; it passes directly between participants' devices through iCloud.
• Apple's handling of this data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Trips you don't share never touch iCloud. You can stop sharing a trip at any time from iOS's standard share-management UI.
If you are signed into Game Center on your device, Plate Hunter will report your achievements and leaderboard scores (total plates, points, best single trip, and longest streak) to Apple's Game Center service. This is how Game Center's global leaderboards and cross-device achievement sync work. You can disable Game Center for Plate Hunter at any time in iOS Settings → Game Center. Apple's handling of Game Center data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Plate Hunter does not collect, and does not have any way to collect:
• Names, email addresses, or contact information
• Device identifiers or fingerprints
• Usage analytics, telemetry, or crash reports
• Photos, camera, or microphone data
• Advertising identifiers or behavioural profiles
• Any data from third-party SDKs (we include none)
Plate Hunter includes no advertisements, no tracking pixels, no analytics frameworks, and no third-party SDKs. The only network services the app communicates with are Apple's own iCloud and Game Center — and only when you've opted into the corresponding features.
Plate Hunter does not require or offer any login with us. Shared Trips and Game Center use your existing iCloud / Apple ID identity through iOS's built-in integrations.
The app also includes a device-to-device Transfer feature that exports your progress as a short code you can paste into another device. The code is generated and processed entirely on-device — it is never transmitted through any of our systems because we don't have any.
Plate Hunter is suitable for users of all ages. We do not collect personal data from any user, including children, which satisfies COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) requirements on our side. Parents who wish to limit Game Center or iCloud use for their children can do so via Screen Time / Family Sharing controls in iOS.
If we update this privacy policy, we will post the revised version on this page with an updated date. Material changes will be called out in release notes.
